The Color of Friendship is a 2000 Disney Channel Original Movie television film which aired on February 5, 2000.

The movie is based on a short story called "Simunye" which was written by the real-life Piper Dellums based on actual events.

Plot[]

Set in 1977, Mahree Bok (Lindsey Haun), a teenage girl from South Africa (who were under apartheid at the time) goes to Washington D.C. for a semester abroad where she stays with the family of Piper Dellums (Shadia Simmons), who is the daughter of U.S. congressman Ronald Dellums (Carl Lumbly).

When Mahree meets the Dellums, she is surprised to see that they are black while Piper is surprised that Mahree is white.

Together, the two girls learn about tolerating one another and friendship.
